Here I Am: Answering the Call to Faith

The call of faith is not a passive experience. It is an invitation, a challenge, and a journey—one that asks us to move beyond our comfort and into something greater. This past Sunday, we explored the theme of answering God’s call, looking at how figures like Isaiah, Peter, and Jeremiah responded when faced with the undeniable presence of the Divine. Their stories remind us that faith is not about being fully prepared or worthy but about being willing to say, “Here I am.”

Recognizing the Call

God’s call does not always come in grand, unmistakable moments. Sometimes it is a quiet nudge, a persistent thought, or an opportunity placed in our path. Isaiah was overwhelmed when he found himself in God’s presence, crying out, “Woe is me! I am lost.” Peter, after witnessing the miraculous catch of fish, fell to his knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.” Jeremiah resisted at first, saying, “I am only a child.”

Each of these figures felt unworthy. Each of them doubted their abilities. Yet God’s call was not based on their qualifications—it was based on their willingness to listen and follow.

How often do we dismiss the call of faith because we feel inadequate? How many times have we resisted a nudge toward action because we assume we are not the right person for the task?

The Courage to Say Yes

When Isaiah heard God ask, “Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?” he could have remained silent. Instead, he responded with powerful simplicity: “Here I am. Send me.”

Peter, despite his initial hesitation, left everything to follow Jesus. Jeremiah, though reluctant, accepted his prophetic mission.

Saying yes to faith does not mean we have all the answers. It does not mean we are free from doubt. It means we trust that God’s presence will sustain us, that we are not alone in the work we are called to do.

Where in your life is God asking you to step forward? What opportunities have you been hesitating to embrace?

Faith in Action

The stories of Isaiah, Peter, and Jeremiah are not just ancient narratives—they are blueprints for how we engage with faith today.

  1. Listen for the call. God speaks in many ways—through scripture, through the needs of others, through the quiet stirring of our hearts.
  2. Acknowledge your doubts but don’t let them stop you. Feeling unworthy is not a barrier to God’s call. It is often the very thing that makes us receptive to His work.
  3. Take the next step. Faith is not just belief; it is action. Where can you serve, love, or bring hope to someone today?

Here I Am

Faith is a journey of saying yes—again and again, in small ways and in great leaps. It is about trusting that when we take that first step, God is already there, guiding us forward.
