Position Title

Associate Pastor – Bostwick Lake Congregational UCC

Position Summary

  • Works directly with the Senior Pastor to provide worship and ministerial services for the congregation and community.
  • Engages in study and goal-setting with the Senior Pastor and Church Council to support mission, growth, and stability.
  • Develops a concrete work plan with the congregation and volunteer leadership.
  • Leads study groups, supports select teams, visits shut-ins/sick, and assists in worship and pastoral duties as assigned.
  • This is a one-year mentorship role intended to transition into the full pastoral position, contingent on performance.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • 20-hour-per-week, one-year position with mentorship and leadership development alongside the Senior Pastor.
  • Focus on church growth, outreach, and community involvement from the beginning.
  • Lead and support outreach programs, volunteers, and partnerships that align with church goals.
  • Recruit, train, and support volunteers using the Volunteer Selection Process for youth-related programs.
  • Expand church attendance by connecting with unreached individuals and families—especially those with youth.
  • Represent the church in community events, meetings, and outreach efforts.
  • Utilize media, programs, workshops, and technology to learn and grow with the congregation and community.
  • Workspace is available at the church.
  • Role may be extended and promoted based on performance.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master of Divinity or equivalent combination of ordination, education, and relevant experience.
  • Experience in program development and outreach delivery to diverse communities.
  • Demonstrated cultural awareness and inclusive communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in both leadership and collaborative team roles.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with technology (Zoom, MS Office, online collaboration tools).
  • Local and occasional long-distance travel required.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and perform basic physical duties of the role.

  • Previous church work or internship experience.
  • Demonstrated initiative and multitasking ability.
  • Ability to foster and maintain partnerships in the community.
  • Experience supporting grants or externally funded initiatives.
  • Commitment to growing in faith and supporting a faith-based community as a servant leader.

Work Hours

Approximately 20 hours per week.

Compensation

Salary: Negotiable, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Benefits: Negotiable (may include housing, insurance, and/or expenses).

Position Duration

One-year initial term from date of hire. Extension and promotion to full pastoral role contingent on excellent performance.
