Faith and Learning for Young Hearts

Children’s Education & Sunday School in Rockford, MI

We are committed to guiding children in faith, fostering a love for learning, and helping them build a strong foundation for a life of spiritual growth. Our Children's Ministry serves children from birth through 5th grade, focusing on developing the whole child—Mind, Body, and Spirit.
Ages 0-5th Grade

Children's Ministry

Our Children's Ministry is dedicated to providing a welcoming space where children can learn, grow, and explore their faith in an interactive and meaningful way.

Sunday School

K-5th grade children begin their Sunday experience in the sanctuary, learning the rhythm of adult worship and participating in meaningful ways. After about 15 minutes, our children receive a sung blessing from the congregation and are invited to continue their worship and learning downstairs in one of our fully equipped Worship Centers. With two-person teaching teams leading their experience, children explore faith through interactive storytelling, movement, and the arts until adult worship ends.

Nursery Care

Our nursery provides a warm, welcoming, and safe environment for our youngest members, allowing parents to fully participate in worship with peace of mind. Available every Sunday morning and during special services throughout the year, our nursery is staffed by two dedicated adults who lovingly care for children from birth through age 4.

We strive to model God’s love and extravagant welcome in every aspect of our childcare, ensuring that each child feels valued and nurtured. In our clean, brightly painted, and safely appointed nursery area, children engage in age-appropriate activities such as playing with toys, listening to music, reading books, and enjoying a light snack.

We invite families to take advantage of this safe and enriching space where children can experience joy, care, and connection while their parents participate in worship.

Curriculum

Our Spiritual Life team has selected the Seasons of the Spirit curriculum to guide our teaching teams each week. This curriculum aligns meaningfully with our pastor’s weekly message, inviting children and their parents to explore shared experiences at home and throughout the week.

Liturgical Intelligence and Faith Formation

Our program focuses on teaching 'liturgical intelligence'—helping children develop a firm foundation in 'how to be church' together. Through experiential learning, they listen and speak, pray and contemplate, be still and move, make an offering and receive blessings, learn and teach, express their needs, and learn to serve. This holistic approach ensures that children understand and actively participate in worship and community life.

Children and Communion

Our children are invited to participate in communion on the first Sunday of each month. Additionally, we offer regular opportunities for children to remain in the sanctuary for the full worship service, encouraging parents and children to worship together. More than anything, our Children's Ministry seeks to support parents in becoming the primary spiritual teachers of their children. We are here to help you grow together!

Youth Group

Young people at Bostwick Lake Congregational UCC have both a community and a place to call their own. Middle and high school students gather every other Sunday in the youth room—a space they are free to redesign! There's no need to be a member of our church to join; we welcome anyone looking for a place to belong.
Our youth program is growing, and we are excited to have Samuel Sanestin leading the way as our new part-time Youth Director. Samuel brings a wealth of experience in pastoral leadership, community service, and youth mentorship. His dedication to guiding young people in faith, service, and personal growth makes him a great addition to our church family.

At Bostwick Lake Congregational UCC, we strive to create a welcoming and engaging space for youth to connect, explore their faith, and serve their community. Through regular gatherings, service projects, and fun activities, youth have the opportunity to build friendships, develop leadership skills, and grow spiritually in a supportive environment.

Whether through discussions on faith and life, hands-on service projects, or group activities that foster teamwork and personal growth, our youth program is designed to be both meaningful and accessible for all. As our program expands, we look forward to offering even more opportunities for involvement and connection.
